FILEUNBOX
About FileUnbox and our testing approach
What FileUnbox does, how local and AI tools handle files, and what our release tests can and cannot establish.
What this project does
FileUnbox is a file workbench. Free local tools handle image conversion, compression, resizing and PDF page organization. Invite-only AI tools extract tables or text from one page. The FileUnbox project maintains the product and its guides.
Local tools do not require an account. AI needs an access code. There are currently no paid plans, purchase flow or formal customer-support channel. Do not pay anyone claiming to sell FileUnbox access codes.
Two ways files are processed
Local image and PDF tools
File content is processed in the current browser without uploading it to a server. Closing or refreshing the page clears the current task; download the results you need first.
AI table and text extraction
After your consent, one selected page is sent through OpenRouter to a model provider. FileUnbox does not store document content; the provider's own data policies still apply.
How release testing works
The October 28, 2026 launch checks used synthetic images, sample tables and public PDFs. Checks inspected downloaded formats, dimensions, page order and cell contents, plus mobile layout, errors and whether local operations sent file requests. All 37 local-tool checks passed. Six of seven checks in the final AI matrix passed; that matrix included access-control checks and is not a recognition accuracy rate.
One image-to-Excel table sample was rejected for inconsistent result structure, and that issue remains unresolved. Passing samples does not prove every file will work, nor establish long-term availability, lossless conversion or recognition accuracy. Verify important values and text against the source.
How to read our guides and examples
Guides describe the current tool behavior. Demonstration values explain rules; they are not customer case studies or measured results. FileUnbox created the downloadable practice PDF. We do not invent reviews, expert identities, rankings or accuracy figures, or create tool pages for unsupported features. A content update date does not mean every test was rerun that day.
